Read on to find out who we are, what we do, about our squadron and how little it all costs! Who are we? The Air Training Corps is a Military Uniformed, Youth Organisation that provides young people, between the ages of 13 and 17, with the opportunites of a life time. The Air Training Corps is part of the Air Cadet Organization (ACO) which also includes RAF Sections of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). The Air Cadet Organisation, and as such Air Training Corps, is supported by the Royal Air Force. With almost 49,000 members, aged from 13 to 20 years, within over 1,000 Squadrons, the ATC is one of the country's premier youth organizations and the world's largest youth air training organization. The Cadets are supported by a volunteer Staff of nearly 10,000 plus 5,000 Civilian Committee Members. Cadets have opportunities to go Flying, Gliding, Shooting, Camping, Hill Walking, Duke of Edinburgh, and take part in Foreign Expeditions. Training is provided in a huge array of subjects, including map reading, flying, air craft recognition and much more!! Cadets learn leadership skills, self discipline, respect for both themselves and for others and a whole range of other skills that stand them in good stead for later life!
The Squadron When do we meet? We parade every Monday & Thursday, 7pm - 9pm at the Volunteer Hall in Duns. Who runs the squadron? The squadron is staffed by volunteers. This pays for the cadets' uniform, squadron activities, squadron training, and the flying and gliding opportunites. Camps and Expeditions usually cost a small amount, for example: The 2003 Norway expedition (2 weeks adventure training in Norway) - £300. Half of which availble from Personal Fund Raising! The weekend 'BarryBuddon' Adventure Training Camp - £15 The week long Easter Camp to MOD Machraharnish - £50 The week long Nordic Ski Expedition to Zweisel, Germany - £150 Interested?
